Planner Challenge 6 hour Challenge

A goal without a plan is just a wish

We guess everyone is as super excited as we are to celebrate National Team Manager day on November 6th?! Well to mark the occasion we're bringing you  a very different theme for this run and a very different medal from the usual, a medal that is multi functional as well as being significantly bigger than normal. (A whopping 6 inches!) It has an easy to detach ribbon and a magnetic back, so it can be stuck to a fridge or other metallic surface and is designed to be a perpetual monthly calendar. All you need is a white board pen or two (don't use permanent markers!) and then you can use the medal as a planner. You can write in the days of the month on the little coloured blobs and then you can plan out your month, either in advance, or as a motivational help if you are setting yourself a monthly challenge (hence the space to write that in!) so if you are having a RED January (Run Every Day) or a Dry January or just to plan anything you wish... you have a medal for it with this giant 6 inch across medal!

The coastal path known as the Viking Coastal Trail runs around Thanet and a section runs along the seafront at Ramsgate which forms part of a popular route that we have here. The route is 4.37 miles and runs both along the top and bottom of the cliffs on gentle slopes. The upper and lower sections are joined by a little "grotto" called the Chine  which meanders through the cliff.   This event will have a six hour time limit for you to run as many, or as few laps as you wish. With a timed event, as long as you complete one lap, then you are an official finisher! As with all our challenges events as long as you are out one second before the cut off, so in this case 5 hours 59 mins and 59 seconds you are free to complete a final lap of the course.

Course details

The course is loops of 4.37 miles that runs along a stretch of the Viking Coastal Way around Ramsgate in Kent.

You can view the route on MapMyRun here

The total elevation gain is around 100' for each loop. Navigation is slightly convoluted as to get the distance we have an uneven loop and two out and backs. It looks more confusing on the map linked above as that doesn't really show of course that there is a tunnel to run through.

Are there time limits?

Yes, six hours to run as many laps as you can.  As long as you are on your final lap before 5 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds then you are good for one more.

Any runner completing 26.2 miles or more will have completed marathon distance and will count as a marathon finish for the purposes of the 100 Marathon Club, if you complete over 27 miles then you've completed an ultra. As long as you finish one lap then you'll receive an official finish time, medal and chocolate. With timed events there are no DNFs.

Do I have to run for the whole time?

No! You can stop at any time you wish, just as long as you complete one lap you are an official finisher.

Can I stop at marathon distance?

Yes. If you complete the loop you're on and your final distance is 26.2 miles or more it will count as a marathon finish by 100 Marathon Club standards.

Do you have secure baggage facilities

If you drive you can use your own car as your own personal bag drop or you're free to leave bags at the start/finish. There will always be someone around but we can't guarantee their security.

Is the course closed to the public?

No. We are using the Viking Coastal Path. Runners do not have the right of way and need to be considerate of other users of the land, especially near the start/finish area which is a popular area for people walking their dogs, so beware of animals and leads.

Are there any facilities at the start/finish area?

Water, squash, nibbles, starter, timekeeper and encouragement every lap! Toilets are situated a few yards away and are highlighted on the map.

Can I use an ipod or mp3 player on the course?

Yes. Though please be aware that you are running on public footpaths with the general public so make sure that you pay attention to cyclists, people, dogs, horse riders, wildlife and so on.

Public Transport?

Ramsgate has a main line train station and is about a mile or so from the Start/Finish area.
